The colours used are orange and black only, this indicates that it is for male or female and also using these colours together makes it really stand out. The title is “Your college” this informs the viewer that it will be about their college and what is in it. The title colour is black so it stands out against the white background, this way it helps to capture the viewer’s eye also and makes it more interesting for them.
There is a middle shot used of a student like person, the shot it positioned slightly to the left and the person doesn’t have eye contact they are looking down at the books that they are using as a prop; the prop used is books and this helps the viewer to tell that this is a college magazine. The way you can instantly imagine the person on the cover being a student is the fact that they look fashionable and are wearing the clothes that people would wear at college today, they are holding books as a prop and they look like a teenage person would. Having a student on the front cover is good because it helps the viewer to be able to relate or think “that person goes to my college”.
The text down the side is interesting because it is also orange and black, so this is keeping to two colour schemes but there is different sorts of text used, the fonts are clear but stand out and the text varies from being bold to italic to normal, also different sizes are used. This makes it that bit more eye capturing, adds more variety to the cover and also makes it more interesting.
The background colour is white, this grabs the attention of people because having a image placed on a white background and then bold, bright/dark texts against the background is automatically eye-catching.
The language used helps you to know it’s for a teenage audience “need cash?”; this is informal text and most teenagers do need cash, it then goes on to explain how you can get cash by informing the viewer that there is a jobs section inside. Also there is quite a lot of rhetorical questions, by doing this it makes you want to know the answer or you automatically answer it. Also on the front cover it advertises the fact that if you subscribe for the magazine then you get 50% off the original price that you would usually pay, this is also capturing the attention of the viewer as they know from when they first get the magazine they are aware that if they like it they can subscribe and pay half the price.
